Best 5 o’clock shadow trimmer

We’ve already posted on the best beard trimmer but how about stubble trimmers & to be more precise the best 5 o’clock shadow trimmer.  You may be asking yourself isn’t a beard trimmer & a stubble trimmer the exact same thing? Well…the short answer is no. A beard trimmer will do exactly that, trim a beard, however a stubble trimmer is designed more so to trim very short hair i.e stubble.

To be more precise the differences are typically in how low you can trim your beard/stubble, the increments in the length and the maximum length setting. Typically a beard trimmer will have larger increments in length & will cut longer hair, a stubble trimmer on the other hand is designed for shorter hair & will have smaller length increments & will also cut hair much shorter than a beard trimmer is capable of, perfect for giving you that 5 o’clock shadow look you’ve been desperately truing to get.

As you’ve guessed it this post is going to discuss some of the best options out there for getting that 5 o’clock shadow look, we’ll talk about the best stubble trimmers with getting this look in mind.

How to make sure you’re getting the best 5 o clock shadow trimmer

  • Firstly you want to make sure that the trimmer you are getting is definately designed for stubble & not for beards
  • Look for a trimmer that provides a very short setting, something that will give a real clean look, typically below 1mm, some trimmers offer really short settings, but best to aim for 1mm as anything less won’t give you the desired 5’clock shadow look.
  • Look for a trimmer that has a contouring head, this will help track the curves of your face, similar to a rotary razor, this helps with accuracy & comfort.

Yes…technically this is a beard trimmer & I know we’ve reiterated to look for a stubble trimmer & not a beard trimmer but this trimmer is so versatile we had to mention it, it features in our best beard trimmers post as well so you know it’s highly rated.

The Philips Norelco 9100 trimmer was made with absolute precision in mind, it features 17 length settings, ranging from 0.2 millimeters (more than ideal for stubble) to 7 millimeters with the length increments no more than 0.2 millimeters in length. The LED display is also a very nice touch as it shows which length you’ve chosen for easy reference. The trimmer also has 2 sides for that extra precision in mind, one side is narrow enough for your mouth and nose area while the other is wider to trim your neck & the side of your face.

One function that makes this stubble trimmer so unique and amazing is the added laser guide that Phillips included. The laser helps with extra sharp precision, projecting a thin line across your face it helps guide you in keeping your hairlines precise &  also helps keep both of your sides even with one another. 5 o clock shadow

The blades on this particular stubble trimmer are another key feature which make this one of the better 5 o clock stubble trimmers out there. They are made from chronium steel & are self sharpening, as well as this the blades are rounded meaning that your shave will be more comfortable & safer especially if you looking to give yourself a close shave or a 5 o clock shadow look.

If you like the look of this trimmer we couldn’t recommend it highly enough, it’s ideal for achieving the 5 o clock shadow however it’s so versatile that if you decide to grow your facial hair longer it is also perfect for trimming beards. Although it’s priced about $80 if you’re looking for something long term this is ideal, as mentioned it’s very versatile meaning if you decide in a year to grow a beard this trimmer will also serve you well, furthermore the blades are self sharpening meaning you’ll save money as you won’t need to replace the head all that often. The Conair for men I-Stubble besides sounding super manly is also a very good stubble trimmer & one of the best 5 o clock shadow trimmers out there.

What makes this trimmer so cool is it’s unique floating contouring head, this helps the trimmer guarantee a tryly accurate & comfortable trim, it likens a rotary shaver in that the head can get into the nooks & crannies of your face.

The shaving setting on this trimmer make it a good trimmer for stubble, the lowest setting is 0.4mm & it features 15 length settings that go all the way up to 5mm, so if you do decide to grow your facial hair longer rest assured you’ll be able tor trim it with the Conair.

Although the Conair features a rapid charging system, it must be charged for 16 hours before its first use.

The trimmer is more of a stand alone stubble trimmer, unlike the Norelco 9100 above which can be used on stubble & beards, the settings on the Conair Trimmer only go from .4mm to 5mm compared to the Norelco which goes from .2mm to 7mm. This means that if you are considering buying a device that is capable of trimming both stubble & beards (All in one) this might not be the right choice. However as a stand alone stubble trimmer & one of the best 5 o’clock stubble trimmers out there we really like it, if you have no intention of growing your facial hair into a beard then this is a great tool, click here for more info on the Conair I-Stubble.

The final trimmer on our list to help achieve the 5 0 clock shadow look is the Philips Norelco BeardTrimmer 3500. Again we know it says ‘Beard’ 7 not stubble but the thing with Philips is that their products are so good that similar to the 9100 it’s super versatile & can trim stubble & beards.

One thing we really like about this trimmer is it’s price, if you’re on a budget & looking for something that can help trim your stubble & beard at an affordable price we can’t recommend this trimmer enough.

Although the trimmer doesn’t cut as low as the above stubble trimmers, ranging from .5mm to 10mm, you can’t grumble at the price as the trimmer includes 20 settings with 0.5mm increments it still offers incredible precision.

The blades are made from titanium and have rounded tips similar to the 9100, making it a very safe to use trimmer. Again, similar to the 9100 the blades are also self sharpening meaning that as a long term investment you’ll likely spend less money in the future.

Unlike the Conair I-Trimmer the Philips Norelco 3500 comes charged out of the box so you can use it straight away, not a huge deal but waiting 16 hours for the Conair I-Trimmer to charge might be a deal breaker for the more impatient among us. Utilizing a nickel based battery you’ll get 60 minutes of trimming time from a 60 minute charge.

Another feature that we really like is that the 3500 is water resistant, which makes it incredibly easy to clean.

Although the 3500 doesn’t cut as close as the 9100 or the I-Trimmer, at the price, coming in at less than half it truly can’t be beat, if you’re looking for the best 5 o clock shadow trimmer then this trimmer could be for you as it cuts as low as .5mm which is still OK for that look.

Despite the fact the 3500 doesn’t come with any bells & whistles so to speak like the laser on the 9100 or the contouring head on the I-Trimmer it’s a real no nonsense trimmer that will be suited to some users & for the price is difficult to beat, click here for more info on this trimmer.

How to get the 5 o clock shadow look

We thought we’d quickly talk about how to get the 5 o clock shadow look as well as the recommending the best 5 o clock shadow trimmers. Firstly…it’s a simple thing to achieve, as long as you can grow facial hair you’re half way there.

  1. The first thing you need to do, not overly strenuous is to avoid shaving for 24-48 hours dependant on how quickly your hair grows.
  2. Using one of the trimmers suggested above shave along the line where your neck meets your chin, & shave all the hair below this line.
  3. Trim down your hair, start with a higher setting as you can always go lower if needed, start with a setting like 3mm to 5mm on the trimmer then work your way down.
  4. Once you’re happy with the length of your stubble, you can blend it in using the next length setting down, trim the edges of your facial hair this will give it a blended and faded look which will make you look that much sharper.
  5. Once you’re happy with the look, repeat steps 2-4 to maintain your 5 o clock shadow look.
